 The IISRP Social program is mainly for accompanying spouses or significant others to enjoy while the business portion of the AGM is taking place. There are a number of joint activities however.

MONDAY 12 APRIL

Welcome Cocktail Reception

 (Joint Activity)

 

A time to renew acquaintances and opportunities to meet new friends.

 The Welcome Reception will be held in the Hotel Garden in the Grand Hyatt  where you will have plenty of opportunity to relax, mingle and enjoy the musical sounds of Arabia by listening to a traditional Oudth (Arabic guitar) being played to perfection.

 

 

TUESDAY  13 April

"TOUR OF JUMEIRAH MOSQUE"
(Spouse Activity)

  • Out of respect for the local culture, conservative dress for ladies is essential; loose slacks or long skirts, long sleeves, and a head scarf .

The Jumeirah Mosque is a dominant landmark of Dubai city and is built in the medieval Fatimid tradition. This stone structure is a tribute to modern Islamic architecture. Considered to be one of the most attractive mosques in Dubai, the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding organizes visits for non-Muslims, aimed at promoting cultural understanding and first-hand experience as an insight to the Islamic religion.

"ARABIAN NIGHTS DESERT SAFARI and DINNER"
(Joint Activity)

 

The adventure starts in the afternoon with a tour from the hotel in a fleet of special 4X4s which will take you on an adrenalin packed tour through the desert. 

The first stop will be at the camel farm where you can become part of the Arabian Desert life for a moment.

 

In the desert:

As the cars come over the dunes you will come to the "Desert Oasis with waiter carrying trays of ice cold beers and soft drinks to welcome you to your private "Sunset bar".

What better way to enjoy the Arabian sunset!

At this setting you will also enjoy a demonstration of one of the oldest sports of the region, falconry.  The trainer will fly and talk about the falcon and demonstrate its speed and hunting skills.   

 

Next....a short drive to the Bedouin campsite...specially created for us!  You will be welcomed in the traditional Bedouin way by pouring rose water on our hands as a welcoming gesture and offered "Kahwa";  coffee with cardamom and dates.  You will then feast on a sumptuous traditional Arabic BBQ dinner.

 

 

 

 

As for the entertainment,  you will enjoy some wonderful traditional belly dancing! The perfect way to cap off a truly memorable evening.

WEDNESDAY 14 April
VISIT AND LUNCH AT A SHEIKHA FARM
(Spouse Activity)
This activity is LADIES ONLY

 Out of respect for the local culture, conservative dress for ladies is essential; loose slacks or long skirts, long sleeves, and a head scarf .

You will be received in the traditional style of this country by your host the Sheikha Aisha Al Nuaimi and the mother of the Sheikh of Ajman, Sheikh Abdulaziz.  Other female family members cousins and sisters of Sheikh Abdulaziz (also part of the royal Ajman family and referred to as Sheikhas will co-host this informal yet informative afternoon. Ajman is one of the UAE’s 7 Emirates.  

The Sheikhas will give an informal presentation and conversation about the life of the local Emirati women. You will then learn all the secrets of traditional Arabic perfume and Bukhoor (very traditional form of incense) making (in the Majalis area of the farm).  Meanwhile, the last touches will be placed on all the traditional home made dishes and lunch will be served, and as usually around a meal, hosts and guests will socialize. A unique opportunity for you to discover the insights of the Emirati culture ask questions about family customs, food, dress code, social issues and discover the legendary Arabic hospitality. 

You will leave with an immense sense of satisfaction having made new friends among the Emirati community and truly understand their beautiful culture.

"Gala Dinner at the Burj al Arab - Al Falak Ballroom"

The Burj Al Arab (Tower of the Arabs) is a very famous hotel. At 321 m (1,050 ft), it is the second tallest building in the world used exclusively as a hotel. The Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) out from Jumeirah beach, and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It is an iconic structure, designed to symbolize Dubai's urban transformation and to mimic the sail of a boat.

 

The Al Falak Ballroom is truly a showpiece! Circular in shape and designed in the image of an 18th century Viennese Opera House, the Al Falak Ballroom is breathtaking! 

 The main central hall is exceptionally bright because of its polished white marble walls.

THURSDAY 15 April (tentative)

"TOUR OF DUBAI MUSEUM"
(Spouse Activity)

Believed to be the oldest building in Dubai built in 1787, Dubai Museum is one of the greatest tourist attractions in Dubai. Located inside the Al Fahidi Fort, the diverse range of exhibits in the museum depicts the rich cultural heritage of Dubai.

The museum is a great depiction of Dubai’s evolution from the time that oil was discovered to the modern status that it is currently in. Galleries in the museum include traditional Arab houses, souks, date farms, exhibits of dessert and marine life and many more. Artifacts from excavations that have taken place in the Emirates that date back to third millennium B.C are some of the popular visitor attractions.

Tourists can have a detailed review of the life in the gulf region through the descriptive maps that are exhibited at the entrance of the museum. For those visitors wanting to have a break away from the tall buildings of the metropolitan city, pay a visit to the museum where you can find relics and models of ancient Arabian houses.
